Thinking About Kimono Through Technology, Design and Art
What is a Kimono? Who wears it nowadays? How is it comfortable to wear? Is it too hot to wear a kimono? Who is a "craftsman"? What kind of people make kimonos? When did kimonos originate? When did the kimono become what it is today? What is "tradition"? Should kimonos be "preserved"? "YSN STUDIO" is a project launched by YASHIRONI, a kimono wholesaler and manufacturer celebrating its 350th anniversary in 2020. The first exhibition will showcase questions, records, and hints for thinking about the future of kimono from now to 2050 in Muromachi Nijo, the place where the company was founded. In 2024 we will feature "heat," "pattern," and "movement. Together with technical directors, designers, researchers, photographers, and stylists, the exhibition will create an opportunity for men and women of all ages to discuss the "future of kimono.
